Quick and simple snacks are a must in any vegan or vegetarian kitchen. This big list of snack ideas will satisfy any craving.

Sometimes you need simple snacks that you can grab and go. These vegan snack ideas are easy to make or buy. Try posting the list on your fridge to help plan grocery shopping trips and as a helpful tip sheet and to use when packing lunches.

To give snacks staying power and a nutritional boost, aim for at least two food groups per snack.

These snacks range from sweet to savoury and from healthy to not-so-healthy. Whatever your mood, you’ll find the right snack to satisfy any craving here.

Fruity Snacks

  • Fresh or chopped fruit
  • Dried fruit (apricots, raisins)
  • Trail mix or granola
  • Frozen grapes
  • Frozen fruit to make into smoothies
  • Canned fruit or small fruit snack cups
  • Applesauce (try it with raisins and flaxseed or granola)
  • Apple slices (try them with nut butter for dipping)
  • Dates stuffed with almonds and vegan cream cheese

Protein-Rich and Beany Snacks

  • Purchased or homemade tofu jerky

  • Bean salad (purchased or homemade)
  • Store-bought or homemade marinated tofu
  • Leftover tofu cubes from a cold spring rolls recipe
  • Store-bought almond tofu dessert
  • Two-minute black bean and avocado salsa
  • Hummus or black bean dip
  • Vegetarian “cold cuts” slices (wrap them around veggies and dip in hummus)
  • Leftover tempeh cubes

Starchy, Carbohydrate-Rich Snacks

  • Popcorn (plain or topped with nutritional yeast, vegan margarine and spices)
  • Mini pitas to dip in hummus
  • Fruit and grain pita bread
  • Nacho chips
  • Couscous, quinoa or mixed grain salad
  • Bruschetta or garlic bread
  • Tortilla pinwheels stuffed with vegan cream cheese
  • Mini Samosas
  • Store-bought refrigerated crescent dinner rolls
  • Instant oatmeal in packets
  • Leftover oatmeal pancakes (roll up and dip into syrup for a treat)
  • Plain or chocolate non-dairy milk (hemp, soy, almond)
  • Leftover baked potato stuffed with corn salsa

Vegetable Snacks

  • Corn on the cob
  • Celery with peanut butter
  • Carrot sticks
  • Coleslaw mix with a favourite dressing
  • Sweet potato or regular potato French fries, cooked from frozen
  • Leaf lettuce or kale leaves to make wraps (try tofu egg-less salad or chickpea salad as fillings)
  • Edamame (frozen but can be quickly microwaved)
  • Tabouli (tabbouleh) salad
  • Baba ganoush or eggplant dip (check ingredients for dairy products)

  • Candied ginger (try it with almonds or other nuts)
  • Soy pudding or custard
