Silk soy creamer has been around for years. But it's been updated with a new flavour - and tastes better than ever.

Silk for Coffee is a vegan soy “cream” made especially for coffee. It’s a boon for people who don’t use animal products, as well as those with lactose intolerance or dairy allergies. In Canada, it comes in two flavours: original and vanilla. In the United States, Hazelnut flavour is available as well. Silk creamers are delicious, but they don’t taste like dairy milk.

Flavour and Sweetness in Silk for Coffee

Silk creamer doesn`t taste like dairy milk or cream. It`s made from soybeans, but its soybean flavour is milder than regular soy milk. The other differences between Silk creamer and dairy milk are the sweetness and mouthfeel. Silk is so thick, it feels almost greasy on the tongue. But it lacks the full body and pleasant aftertaste of dairy cream. It`s also sweeter than dairy milk or cream, even in its original flavour. The vanilla is sweeter yet.

Silk for Coffee Doesn’t Curdle in Hot Beverages

Because it’s made for coffee, Silk creamer doesn’t curdle in coffee or tea. There are other non-dairy coffee milk and cream options. But some of these, like soy milk, tend to taste sour or curdle when they hit hot drinks.

Silk for Coffee Isn’t Just for Coffee

Silk creamer can also be used in sweet dessert recipes. It’s a treat on a bowl of oatmeal, on apple crumble, or drizzled over fresh strawberries. Try it in chai tea, either straight or foamed with a milk frother. Add it to cold drinks like iced coffee or lattes too. Bonus - there`s no need to add sugar.

Alternatives to Soy Coffee Creamer

There aren’t many vegan alternatives to Silk for Coffee. In Canada, it’s the only product of its kind. Other “non-dairy” creamers usually contain milk ingredients like casein (sodium caseinate), and are not vegan.

Silk for Coffee Ingredients and Nutrition

Silk for Coffee is not a milk replacement. It isn’t fortified like most non-dairy milks and doesn’t have significant nutritional value (vitamins or minerals). It contains 15 or 20 calories per tablespoon (plain or vanilla); about the same as half-and-half cream (20 calories per tablespoon). Both flavours have 1 gram of fat per tablespoon versus 1.8 grams for half-and-half. Silk creamers don’t contain hydrogenated oils or artificial flavours.
